Todd Shackelford, distinguished professor and chair of Oakland University’s Department of Psychology, has been selected as a recipient of the 2025 Springer Nature Editor of Distinction Awards, which recognize editors who demonstrate exceptional dedication and contributions to the peer review process and author experience.
“At Springer Nature, we are thrilled to celebrate our exceptional editors like (Shackelford), whose dedication to their journals and research communities is truly inspiring,” said Ritu Dhand Ph.D., chief scientific officer at Springer Nature, the world’s largest and leading scholarly publisher.
Shackelford was recognized for his contributions to Evolutionary Psychological Science, which he founded more than a decade ago and for which he continues to serve as editor-in-chief.
“I handle all manuscripts submitted to the journal, solicit at least two expert peer reviewers for each manuscript, then render an editorial decision — reject, revise and resubmit, or accept — based on my own reading and assessment of the manuscript and the comments and suggestions provided by the peer reviewers,” he said.
In recognition of his contributions to the editorial community, Shackelford was honored with the following Editor of Distinction Awards:
• Springer Nature Editorial Contribution Award - This award recognizes the recipient’s meticulous assessment of submissions and rigorous management of the peer review process, safeguarding the scientific accuracy of the published record;
• Springer Nature Author Service Award - This award recognizes the recipient’s exceptional service in improving the author experience and ensuring the peer review process is efficient, constructive and fair.
“I am honored to be recognized with the editorial awards,” Shackelford said. “These awards mean the journal I founded more than a decade ago and continue to serve as editor-in-chief, has matured beautifully and is now respected and appreciated by authors, editors, readers, and by the publisher.”
